Why Christmas didn’t suck this year

This post calls for a Top 10… but I really wanna leave the office before Christmas Eve mayhem/traffic prevents me from doing so.

Too late, it’s a couple of days later, since I wrote that first line, and I got some quick updates:

Family drama was significantly reduced. On top of that, ties to my siblings, nephews, nieces and sisters-in-law are stronger than ever.
My first Christmas as 1/2 of a married couple takes away 70% of the blues. Seriously: I made the calculations! Being part of a life partnership with my Duffgirl has made feel as though christmas shopping is kinda useless, since I got everything I need.
Spinach/cheese lasagna trumps anything bird-related as a christmas dinner. I have no further comments about this one.

Sasha Grey as an American Apparel model. I just found out, a few minutes ago. Granted this isn’t your traditional christmas stockings commercial, it sure keeps me all warm inside.

I forgot to tell you: ours was a low budget (well, sort of… thank god no one handed me a bill for dinner) civil wedding gettogether. Therefore, very few friends were present. Weeks before, however, we got many tokens of appreciation from many dear dudes and dudettes. If any of you should stumble upon this humble blog, you are an awesome person and both me and the mrs. are so very appreciative of you sharing time, money and efforts to celebrate us making our life partnership a reality. Thankies all the way!

Yes… me, the art-driven type, I get my mojo stalled (my job mojo, that is), once the 3 or 4 month mark arrives. What gives? Multi-talented, yet… not sure what can pay the bills he wants?

Certain family members not being completely there for us, that night.
The cold nature of some of the guests who attended (not as guests of you and me, but just to humour someone else’s need of validation).
The ceremony starting an hour later than scheduled.
My need for a smoke.
Your need for tequila.

All that matters is that we went through with it, and made it happen. I wanted to cry, but I didn’t (like Chandler from Friends). I’m sure you felt the same way.

A Duffboy marries a Duffgirl, part 1

It feels like forever since my last entry. What can I say? After some serious praying and talking, we were able to brush off the drama that came with a small civil ceremony (and passive-agressiveness from the usual suspects). Next day, the Married Ones, we drove about 90 miles to a small cottage near a town called Santa Catarina Palopó, overlooking Lake Atitlán. During 6 days we lived inside our own little bubble: enjoying the scenery (and feeling sad about the pollution that's affecting the lake), the love-making, the gaming, the cooking, our sporadic walks to the lake (where I managed to swim for the first time in a natural body of water conversation with an incredibly nice and intelligent guy called Sidney (who rented the cottage to us), the falling asleep together in a room with a view, sharing our hopes and fears... ok, this calls for another post. It's getting way too long. Expect Honey Moon Duff, all this week.

What goes through the mind of a rapist?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the mental process of sex-offenders, particularly rapists. It gets tiresome, to hear about someone who knows somebody who was raped (we rarely have acquaintances that would be the actual offenders, it seems their friends keep to themselves)… I say so with both frustration and resignation (Guatemala is a country in which salleged ex offenders either get a slap on the wrist, or are stoned or burned alive). When thinking of the proper image or video to accompany this post, I couldn’t help but think of Irreversible, that disturbing Gaspar Noé film. A random google image search resulted in this very powerful and explicit poster:

I also thought of, but couldn’t embed, that also powerful scene from Pulp Fiction. Males standing up from other pain-inflicting males… it’s what (in part) I want to write about. Like the title to this entry states, it’s not welcoming territory to tread, but a necessary for me.
