I’ve been thinking a lot about the mental process of sex-offenders, particularly rapists. It gets tiresome, to hear about someone who knows somebody who was raped (we rarely have acquaintances that would be the actual offenders, it seems their friends keep to themselves)… I say so with both frustration and resignation (Guatemala is a country [...]

It’s finally here: the day in which I’ll be able to share publically (aside from the web), my thoughts regarding A Puerta Cerrada, my first novella. In case you’re in Guatemala City, we’ll talk about the book this wednesday night (tomorrow) at Sophos bookstore, say 6:30ish.

I just finished reading an article by Dan Silverstein, Criminally Negligent Homicide: The Legacy of Wealthy Nations That Allow Millions to Die and now… I understand a little better how the corrupted powers that be sleep (or don’t) at night.
This is what I’m talking about:
Ethiopians die of thirst literally on the banks of the Blue Nile [...]

I guess the more you feel close to someone, the more you worry about their safety and well-being. I’m having a bit of the paranoid blues, and I try to enjoy this blogging business… however, having my name out there, attached to a photo (I rarely get press interested in me, whether as a writer [...]

Here goes: one of my first attempts at english-written fiction. This is a translation of a short story of mine, originaly written in spanish for an online anthology. It’s sexually hardcore, sort of a tribute to Estuardo Prado, a notorious pulp narrator from Guatemala. The photo below is by Matthew McMullen Smith

A fellow writer/coworker (ok, he’s also my boss) seems to be intrigued by something as “commercial” as literary merchandising, specifically t-shirts. I know the idea of placing book covers or writers’s portraits on a t-shirt goes way back, of that I’m sure. I’m not get into a big philsophical debate about it (where he’s old [...]

Last weekend Duffgirl and I made our first visit as a couple, to Antigua Guatemala, one of the most sought out tourist destinations, within a 25 minute drive from our nation’s capital. We each took some dashing photos, here are some of mine.

WordPress hosted blogs here in Guatemala have been blocked for some reason or another. I had to try a proxy alternative (not sure exactly what that is) to write this entry. Still adjusting to the new tasks, responsabilities, and a work schedule. My sleep habits are not the most intelligent, and I’m paying for it… [...]

It didn’t take long for me to be completely offended by this biassed article about Twitter use in Guatemala and Iran. I usually don’t write people to give them a piece of my mind, but this time the author -Elizabeth Lazar- crossed the line. I share with you my e-mail:
Dear Elizabeth:

As a fellow writer and guatemalan [...]

Yes sir, I happen to be involved in a couple of art projects with the incredible individual/collaborative talents of Álvaro Sánchez and Alejandro Marré. Both artists are contributing in more than one way to my creative growth, and for that (and for their friendship also), I’m very grateful. Check their links!
