I guess the more you feel close to someone, the more you worry about their safety and well-being. I’m having a bit of the paranoid blues, and I try to enjoy this blogging business… however, having my name out there, attached to a photo (I rarely get press interested in me, whether as a writer [...]

It didn’t take long for me to be completely offended by this biassed article about Twitter use in Guatemala and Iran. I usually don’t write people to give them a piece of my mind, but this time the author -Elizabeth Lazar- crossed the line. I share with you my e-mail:
Dear Elizabeth:

As a fellow writer and guatemalan [...]

Does your country enacts its officials to persecute “enemies of the state”? Mine does.
Does your country allows president elects that have confessed to assassinations, to take office? Mine does.
Does your country asks state employees to “donate” part of their wages to the official party? Mine does.
Does your country rounds up people from rural and urban [...]

Guatemala’s current political and social mayhem (derived from the recent execution of a whistle blower attorney Rodrigo Rosenberg) has proved that social media is not a place where you can speak your mind without fear of retribution. Guatemalan tweeter Jean Ramses Anleu Fernández, an information technology worker, was arrested today, charged with “financial panic”. Here’s [...]

One thing Guatemala kicks ass at is in the highly profitable and succesful distribution of bootleg copies of music and movies. The government looks the other way (unless you count a raid once a year), and there are tons of streets were people make their living by providing the public all the ilegal stuff they [...]

Man, it has been a bunch of somber days, last week. My employer/friend Héctor, was shot down, and his larger than life journey was cut short. During his burial, his parents felt comforted by the fact that so many people felt the positive energy of their son’s presence. Organized crime and drug cartels pretty much [...]

Today we take a pause in our struggle for world domination, in order to pay tribute to our great leader Super Héctor, who has started a journey towards the Owner’s Box, from where he’ll watch us triumph and meet our shared goals and dreams. We know he treads this path with certainty and the knowledge [...]

Eating a green apple while blogging, that’s a first. I know there are lots of deep and social issues to tackle around the world nowadays (like this terrible child prostitution ring in Argentina IN SPANISH), but sometimes Duff Boy likes to keep things simple. How do you like my new T-shirt? I found some funny [...]
