I rented “The Hottest State” this past weekend. Ethan Hawke’s film adaptation of his first novel couldn’t have been better. There’s a subtext that strikes me in my soft parts… my “emotional” soft parts: the way my parents’s shit gave me shit while growing up, and how, then as a man, I needed him so much.  Here’s the trailer for the movie. Browsing through YouTube I found this emotional scene from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air: the one where Will’s dad bails on him, yet again. No matter how much time has passed, and even though we’ve made amends, I always get teary eyed while watching it.

  1. I saw the movie Longshots today and there is a little bit of dad/child emotional stuff in it. Except the child is a girl. It was still a little sad and I felt bad for her but it works out in the end. And I saw the movie with my dad.

  2. Nice, that you saw an emotional movie with your dad. I did that with Big Fish, and it was great, although my dad isn’t too outspoken when it comes to his emotions.

  3. Oh my gosh, YES that scene from Fresh Prince, I remember! I thought because it was a sit-com it would have a happy ending, but not so much… :-(

  4. Yeah, really, it was so sad :( “How come he don’t want me man”.

  5. Allan Martinez

“How come he don’t want me man”… Shit man… I remember that episode… I cry too.

  6. Allan Martinez

“How come he don’t want me man”… Shit man… I remember that episode… I cried too.

  7. Yeah dude, really emotional. For some reason I need to see this scene every once in a while. It always gets to me.
